Updates and other random Rush stuff

Today's presale is well under way and from the comments I've read in this post and this post people are generally having good luck with it. Make sure to share your experience with us. And once you have your tickets, check-in at your venue's discussion comments in the Tour Section.

Best Buy customers who had pre-ordered the Snakes & Arrows DVD album have received 2 emails from Best Buy in as many days. Yesterday's email confirmed that the release date had been pushed back to June 5th as first reported by Power Windows last Thursday. Today's email (just sent out) says No ... actually it's still May 22nd. At this point I'm not sure what's going on. Amazon.com still has it listed as May 22nd and MusicToday has it as May 15th. All I know for sure is that it will be released sometime after May 15th. :)

I've updated the radio interviews post yet again and added in the KKRW (Houston) interview with Geddy Lee making a total of 10 interviews. You can listen to all the interviews here.

It's official. RushCon 7 will be held at the Days Inn in Toronto on September 21-23, 2007 with special events Wed, Sept. 19 (the day of the Toronto Rush show) and Thurs. Sept. 20. Details are coming soon. In addition, the folks at RushCon are planning a special event to coincide with the Darien Lake Buffalo Show on July 4th which is currently on presale. Details in this post.

For those of you who don't know, Alex Lifeson and his son were arrested in Naples, FL on New Year's eve 2004 at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Naples, Florida. There is a great running history of the case over at the Power Windows site. The latest development had been that Alex was filing a countersuit against the Ritz-Carlton and the officers involved in the incident. The suit was to go to trial later this month and Alex actually discussed the case at length in his recent radio interviews last week. Well ... according to this thread at Counterparts in reference to this court document (thanks to ouchie at Counterparts for providing this) the case has been dismissed. So there you have it. Bad news for Alex. Although I'm sure there are other legal avenues he can pursue. Thanks to reader Rush Fan for the heads up.

The Far Cry single continues to hold steady at #3 on the MediaBase Mainstream Rock Charts. Let's hope it can bust into the #1 slot in the next few weeks.

Last week Eddie Trunk had the honor of conducting a 45-minute video interview with Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson. He spoke about the interview in his Friday night radio broadcast and mentioned that he had heard Snakes & Arrows. This prompted many emails asking him his opinions on the new album. He posted this reply to these requests in his blog a couple days ago.

... Many have asked me for a detailed review of the new Rush CD. I'll provide that in this space soon once I've really had the chance to absorb it all. I'll also let you know when and where my recent TV interview with the guys will air. ...

Eddie is a big fan of the 70s-era Rush so it'll be interesting to hear what he has to say. Thanks to John L for the heads up.

This bit of news bodes well for the future. Fogolabs is the Montreal production house reponsible for putting together the R30 DVD. FogoLabs is presently archiving the complete recordings of Rush; over 1200 audio tapes spanning some 30 years of recordings and video archives. Wow. I wonder what will become of these recordings. Thanks to Sean for the news.

Reader Mark H alerts us that Allaire Studios (where Rush recorded Snakes & Arrows) mentions Rush in their Winter 2006-07 News blurb:

... Over in the Great Hall, one of Canada's most popular and longest running (thirty years!) bands, Rush were recording their new album for Anthem/Atlantic. Geddy Lee, Neil Peart and Alex Lifeson tracked and overdubbed at Allaire with producer Nick Raskulinecz and engineer Richard Chycki. What was initially a two week booking for the band grew into six as the band made themselves at home, eventually making use of both of our rooms. Matt Snedecor, a major Rush fan, got to assist his heroes. ...

Reader primemover just received the latest (May 2007) issue of Motorcyclist Magazine which includes an article dealing with Neil Peart and his motorcycle tours (based on his Roadshow book). This is the article that Neil discussed in his most recent News update on his website. Hopefully I'll have some scans and/or excerpts in the near future.

Reader 12bucklemyshoe alerted me to this article at Rolling Stone's website titled Rolling Stone's List of the 25 Undisputed Guilty Pleasure Bands. Guess who tops the list? Yup ... Rush. Guilty pleasure?! Pleasure - yes. Guilt - no.
