Geddy Lee hopes for new album and tour in early 2007

UPDATE - 6/27@10:30AM: Neil Peart has updated his website yet again. The band got together in the studio this past May and now have 8 songs they all like, six of which have drum parts. Neil is very enthusiastic about them.

Power Windows is reporting that in a May 2006 interview with entertainment newspaper More Suger Geddy Lee stated the following regarding Rush's upcoming album:

"With a bit of luck we will have an album out early in 2007 and then go out on the road maybe next spring if we are lucky. It's a little too early to tell yet what direction the new material is taking, but Alex and I are just having a blast. We are getting songs written so we are getting there. We kind of record while we write and we would say that we will write and record for the duration of this year. You just never know where it is going to go. I think that's what keeps it fun for us and I am glad that there are people out there that appreciate that."

From this it sounds as if the band will take the recording process at a very leisurely pace, much like the last album. When Neil Peart reported on his website that they'd be in the studio in May, I had hoped that this meant we could possibly see a new album by the fall. From what Geddy says here, this looks less likely now. Whatever the case, I'm just happy that they're working on new material at all.
