UPDATE - 4/1@11:30PM: APRIL FOOLS!! ... in case you hadn't figured it out already. I hope everybody enjoyed the joke and had a good laugh about it. :)
The long-anticipated Rush documentary Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage will have its US and world premier at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City on April 24th while the Canadian premier will occur at the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival in Toronto on April 29th. I now can reveal some exciting news for those attending these premiers. It's no secret that the huge success of the 3D film Avatar has changed the way the film industry is viewing the entire film production process. This fact was not lost on Rush documentary filmmakers Scott McFaden and Sam Dunne. From a recent NMStar.com interview:
... we looked at the success of films like Avatar and thought, 'Hey'- we can make this work for documentaries too. So we decided we'd make the (Rush) doc the first 3D documentary. That's why there were so many delays in production. ... (Rush) was a little hesitant at first, but once we showed them some test screenings they were on board. It's pretty spectacular. As a viewer it's almost as if you are there filming the documentary yourself. I think Rush fans are gonna love it....
The filmmakers have put together a 2-minute 3D preview trailer to demonstrate the use of 3D in the film. To get the full effect you'll need a pair of standard 3D glasses. You can check out the trailer below or at this link.
