I Love You Man opens in 2nd place with $18 million

I Love You Man was released this past weekend and ended up grossing an impressive $18 million and coming in 2nd just behind Knowing which grossed $25 million. The movie is filled with Rush references including a cameo from the band themselves. The movie stars self-proclaimed Rush fans Paul Rudd (Peter) and Jason Segel (Sydney). You may remember Segel from his role on the short-lived TV show Freaks and Geeks, which frequently referenced Rush. In the movie Sydney's man cave is adorned with Rush posters and the 2 characters bond through their mutual love of Rush. In one scene the two end up jamming out to Tom Sawyer in the man cave (Peter plays a Geddy Lee Signature Jazz Bass). Sydney calls up Peter at one point alerting him that the Rush fan club (what Rush fan club?) just emailed him about Rush playing an impromptu show at a small venue (unlikely!). While mulling over the offer, Peter exclaims I haven't seen them live since the Signals tour!. The two along with Peter's fiancee then all go to the concert where the real Rush make their cameo, playing Limelight. At the end of the film in the wedding scene (shown as the credits are rolling), Paul and Sydney stand in with the wedding band to play Limelight. This performance is included on the I Love You Man Soundtrack (you can listen to it here), along with the original Rush versions of Limelight and Tom Sawyer.
