Geddy Lee and Dave Bidini's Baseballissimo movie

Thu, Oct 7, 2010@10:42AM | comments removed/disabled

Back in June we learned that Geddy Lee had optioned the film and TV rights to Dave Bidini's 2005 book Baseballissimo. Bidini is a Canadian musician, author and founding member of the Rheostatics who is also good friends with Geddy. The book details Bidini's story of his travels to the small town of Nettuno, the baseball capital of Italy since 1944. Plans for making a movie based on the book are moving forward, and this Winnipeg Free Press interview with Bidini from today's edition provides a few more details:

... in 2004 [Bidini] followed around an Italian minor league baseball team in Baseballissimo, which is being made into a movie. ... "Geddy Lee holds the option for the book, so he's the representative for the world. He and the producer are out there trying to find the right writer. The idea is to have a screenwriter in place before the World Series ends and once that gets underway we'll look for directors," says Bidini, who feels too close to the project to sign up as the screenwriter himself. ...
