Far Cry chart updates, now on UK iTunes

Mon, Apr 16, 2007@4:28PM | comments removed/disabled

Far Cry continues to do well on rock radio in the US. It's still holding steady this week at #3 on the MediaBase Mainstream Rock chart.
It moved up one notch from #4 to #3 on the Radio and Records Rock chart. And it's at #6 on the MediaGuide Mainstream Rock chart. It continues to fall outside the top 20 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart however. Billboard uses distinctively different criteria than the other charting services including sales numbers and video airplay (I think).

We also have some really cool new Sirius Satellite radio chart information courtesy Drew. The list hasn't been updated on the website yet, but Far Cry was #6 this past week on Octane's Rock 20 countdown. Octane counts down the 20 best new hard rock songs of the week as requested by listeners. It's notable because of the company it's keeping; it's thrown in there with a bunch of tracks from more modern heavy rock bands such as Clutch, Static X, Finger Eleven and others.

Readers Chris S and Lee B alerted me that Far Cry is finally available on iTunes in the UK.

And finally, check out this horrible Far Cry review from Nick Levine at Digital Spy:

Rush deserve our begrudging respect. For almost 40 years they've devoted themselves to that most unfashionable of rock genres: prog. They've survived personal tragedy, widespread disinterest and being saddled with a bassist who looks a bit like Janet Street-Porter to make it this far. Folks, it's time to doff your caps.

Still, no one under the age of 50 needs to hear their new single. 'Far Cry' is full of noodley bass solos, repetitive drum breaks and gibberish lyrics like "pariah dogs and wandering madmen, barking at strangers and speaking in tongues". Note to Rush: do us a favour and leave the woe unto the world stuff to Al Gore. Stick to your day job, which - in case you've forgotten - is making music for men who like to combine a combover with the remnants of a shoulder-length mullet.

What?? That's a review? Disliking the song is one thing, but why resort to remarks about combovers and mullets? Ridiculous. If you have a second and are so inclined, join the others who have called him out on the ludicrousness of his review and leave him a comment.
