The State of Rush

Mon, Sep 4, 2006@10:38PM | comments removed/disabled

Well, another Labor Day has come and gone and summer has unofficially come to a close. More importantly to us Rush fans, it's September - which is when Neil Peart said in his most recent website update would be when the band would reconvene to continue work on the next Rush studio album. We've recently learned that Nick Raskulinecz has been confirmed to produce this album (we're still waiting for the "official" word though). Also rumored to have been hired as sound engineer is Rich Chycki. Back in May the band had gotten together and, as Neil said, "had eight songs that we all liked, and I had worked out drum parts for six of them". So that's where things stand as of now with regards to the new album. There's also a lot of exciting things on tap for the next few months with regards to various side projects. Here's a rundown:

  • Neil Peart's new book is slated for release later this month on September 25th. It's titled Roadshow: Landscape With Drums, A Concert Tour by Motorcycle. Excerpts can be read on his website here and you can preorder the book here.
  • Eddie Trunk will be interviewing Neil for his radio show and VH1 Classic sometime in the near future according to Eddie's blog.
  • The new Trailer Park Boys movie will be released across Canada on October 6th. Alex Lifeson produced a version of I Fought the Law for the movie soundtrack which features Alex and Geddy, Adam Gontier (Three Days Grace), Jeff Burrows (The Tea Party), Ian Thornley and Care (Die Mannequin). The newest trailer for the movie featuring The Spirit of Radio can be seen here.
  • Two albums which feature guest appearances from Alex Lifeson will be released in Canada on October 3rd. Jakalope's Born 4 (Alex plays on the track Star 24) and Edwin's Better Days.
  • Neil Peart drums on three tracks on the new Vertical Horizon album - release date unknown. Vertical Horizon member Matt Scannell is a good friend of Neil's and one of the songs is a collaboration between Neil and Matt. Neil wrote all about the experience on his website here.
