Alex Lifeson discusses Rush documentary in new interview

The long-anticipated Rush documentary Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage will have its US and world premier this Saturday at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City on April 24th while the Canadian premiere will occur at the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival in Toronto on April 29th. Earlier this week we learned that the documentary will get its television premiere on VH1 and VH1 Classic on June 26th, just a few days before the start of Rush's Time Machine Tour. Alex Lifeson recently spoke with Joshua Rothkopf of Time Out New York to briefly discuss the documentary and a few other subjects. The article starts out indicating that Alex called in from Nashville for the interview where Rush is working on its next album. From the interview:

... To Geddy and Neil and me, the thought of doing a documentary about Rush just didn�t seem so great of an idea. We�re just a band. We�re middle-class Canadian kids who grew up. ... We made ourselves available to Sam and Scot, the filmmakers, who were really dedicated, but I wouldn�t say we felt comfortable being involved with it. And we�re not, honestly. Like this Rock and Roll Hall of Fame thing, this constant talk about us not being inducted. We couldn�t care less, really. That�s never been important to us. ...

Towards the end of the interview Alex is asked about the tour and about playing Moving Pictures in its entirety. He mentions another older song that the band will pull out for the tour:

"Tom Sawyer" could have been written eight months ago, with the kind of response it still gets. We're bringing a bunch of other old stuff back, ********** too. We're rearranging it slightly, as with "The Camera Eye," changing a couple of things, having another crack at it. It's going to be a lot of fun for us.
