Updates and other random Rush stuff

Thu, Dec 24, 2009@11:34AM | comments removed/disabled

I'm posting the updates and other random Rush stuff a day early this week due to the Christmas holiday. Things are a bit quiet right now; the calm before the storm would be a good way to describe it. Things are going to get very busy in 2010 for Rush. As it stands right now, it looks like the band will be hitting the studio in January with a tour kicking off in the late Spring. We can look for the official tour announcement in February. For all the details and a couple of tasty rumors, check out this post from yesterday.

The only real news of any significance from this past week was a new interview with Alex Lifeson from Guitar Aficianado. The interview was conducted at Alex's Coppinwood golf course outside Toronto this past Fall (prior to the band's November band meeting in Los Angeles), and for most of the article Alex discusses golf. He does say a little bit about Rush though:

... Lifeson expects Rush to be active again in 2010. He and Lee are planning to flee Toronto's fall chill for a pre-holiday trip to California to visit Peart and meet his new baby daughter, Olivia. They'll talk about a possible new album and summer tour ...

Rush's Working Men live DVD compilation and their R30 blu-ray re-release were mentioned in Monday's USA Today for an article titled Music-video DVDs that make worthy gifts this season. Thanks to Mark S for the heads up.

This past Monday we celebrated International Rush Day - the 21st day of the 12th month or 21/12 as written in many parts of the world. The occasion has become a sort of unofficial Rush holiday in recent years. Thanks to everybody who helped celebrate and attended the Facebook event I'd created.

The second Trailer Park Boys movie - Countdown to Liquor Day - was released to theaters in Canada back in September and Alex Lifeson made a cameo appearance as a cop. This review of the film from the Edmonton Sun describes some details about Alex's role:

... Of course, there's the de rigueur appearance by Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson, here playing a drunken, undercover cop posing as a transvestite in a gay-prostitute alley (centred around a Chip Wagon that serves alcohol -- man, Halifax is one weird town). ...

The film was released to DVD this past Tuesday. Lerxst also had a cameo as a cop in the first Trailer Park Boys movie and was heavily involved with the soundtrack for that film. Here's the trailer for Countdown to Liquor Day. Thanks to rushtributeband for the reminder.

Reader rosmakloma located this article at the Car Lust blog which discusses Rush's Red Barchetta.

The Rush Backstage Club is clearing out their supply of 2010 Rush wall calendars. You can get one for just $6.99 at this link (thanks thomas).

The Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) took place last month at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, IN. Neil Peart's original Slingerland drum kit (affectionately dubbed Chromey) was on display. The kit was purchased on eBay this past Summer and restored to a playable condition by the new owner Dean with the help of Michael of NeilPeartDrumsticks.com. They put the kit on display and allowed attendees to play it themselves for one minute with a donation of $10 to the American Cancer Society. They ended up raising over $1200! Dean wanted to send out a Chromey Christmas Greeting to everyone for their help and support with Chromey at PASIC:

A 2009 Chromey Christmas Greeting

The new owners and Santa would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Thanks to all the Rush fans, drumming community, and the American Cancer Society for their help and support with Chromey at PASIC. A special thanks to Mr. Michael DF Lowe and Mr. Paul Wells for making Chromey's appearance at PASIC possible.

Oh, and for any of you that might be wondering: No, it's not Neil in the Santa suit...

Ashley, Santa & Dean

I leave you this Christmas Eve with Alex Lifeson's rendition of the Little Drummer Boy from the Merry Axemas Christmas compilation:

Merry Christmas to everyone who celebrates the holiday. Have a great weekend!
