As I'd mentioned back in a December posting, Cut to the Drummer is an art show and drumming event in support of F.U.M.S. for the MS Society of Canada Scholarship Fund. It will feature 50 portraits of 50 drummers by 50 artists including a portrait of Neil Peart (see right) by Toronto artist Greg Mably. The month-long exhibition at the Steam Whistle Gallery in Toronto will kick off tonight with a special Gala and Silent Art Auction. The doors will open at 7PM and the hosts for the evening will be Darrin Pfeiffer of 102.1 The Edge and Goldfinger, and Aaron Solowoniuk of Billy Talent. The evening’s entertainment will feature jazz great Archie Alleyne with guitarist Jesse Barksdale, Jeremy Taggart of Our Lady Peace and Scott Russell (from Montreal) on the Cajon. Gala guests will have the opportunity to bid on any of the artworks, with profits to support the MS Society of Canada Scholarship Fund. The original art works are valued at $300 - $2500. Tickets for the Gala and Silent Art Auction can be purchased at the door for $150. The opening night reception begins immediately following the Gala at 9:30PM and will run until 1AM. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $15.
