Buddy Rich Memorial Concert update

Wed, Oct 15, 2008@11:15PM | comments removed/disabled

UPDATE - 10/17@1:18PM: I recently learned that Neil's kit from the concert will be on display and for sale at Dale's Drum Shop in Harrisburg, PA early next week. Reader Dave S forwarded me this email he'd received from their mailing list:

***SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT FOR NEIL PEART FANS:***
This Saturday after Neil is finished playing his custom DW set for the Buddy Rich Memorial Concert at Hammerstein Ballroom NY, his one-of-a-kind set will be carefully packed up and delivered in it's entirety - just as Neil left it - straight to Dale's to be seen, and heard, close-up. It's due very early next week. This set will be featured in the next Buddy Rich Memorial Concert DVD w/ Neil Peart playing it. We'll also have some stills from the show with him playing the kit and a Certificate of Authenticity From Drum Workshop for the future owner of this great litttle piece of history.

It'll be one of the best-documented collectables in a LONG time.

And, how often can you say you own a custom kit that was played by a living legend at a Buddy Rich Memorial concert, hand-picked and crafted by John Good, and purchased from Buddy's former drum tech's drum shop?

The Set features DW Collectors drums in Neil Peart specs, custom Classic Marine Pearl finish, Audix D6 internal bass mic w/ May no-drill adapter, and 24kt gold-plated stands.

Stop in and see it!

This coming Saturday, October 18th the Buddy Rich Memorial Concert will take place at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. It will feature a number of drum virtuosos and musicians including Neil, Nick Rich with the Buddy Rich Band, John Blackwell, Terry Bozio, Chad Smith, Jeff Berlin, Will Lee and Tommy Igoe. You can check out the complete details in this Sabian.com press release and in this ad for the event. Last week Michael of NeilPeartDrumsticks.com shared with us a photo of the drum kit that Neil Peart will be using for the concert (courtesy Neil's drum tech Lorne Wheaton). You can check out a full-res image by visiting Michael's website at this link. The concert will also be the debut of Buddy's 23 year old grandson Nick Rich playing for the first time in his grandfather's big band. A couple of weeks ago Cathy Rich posted a great picture of her son Nick with Neil Peart at rehearsals for the concert. And just a few days ago she posted yet another (thanks to Asif K for the heads up). In this pic is pictured Neil with Nick and many others including Chad Smith:

The concert will be streamed live globally by the Drum Channel, and recorded in Hi-def for worldwide release sometime next year. To purchase tickets go to this link.

In related news, apparently Geddy and Alex were in New York today recording their interview with Eddie Trunk for VH1 Classic's new show That Metal Show. So that tells me that they might just be hanging around in order to see the concert Saturday night. For those going, keep an eye out for them.
