UPDATE - 10/7@10:34AM: Here's another article about the anthem from Surrey Now where the composer Grahm McRae is interviewed. He had the following to say regarding working with Alex:

... McRae flew to Toronto for a day of work in the studio to tweak the final version of his composition. "It's different than my original one, but I'm getting used to it," he said of the rendition, built on a foundation of guitar, bass and drums with a fanfare-style trumpet. It was especially cool to work with Lifeson on the anthem, McRae said. "He was amazing, a great guitarist, and I was always a complete progressive-rock fan, so Rush was right in there for me." ...

The CBC's Hockey Night in Canada is running a contest to determine a new Hockey Night in Canada Anthem. Out of the 15,000 initial entries there are now only 5 left. These last 5 anthems were set to orchestra by award-winning producer Bob Rock who invited guitarists such as Kim Mitchell and Alex Lifeson to work with the contestants to add guitar tracks. These five finalists can be voted for online or via test and on Thursday night will be cut from five to two and the winner announced between periods during Saturday's Maple Leafs game. Alex Lifeson added a guitar track to Anthem #3 by elementary school music teacher Grahm McRae titled Eleventh Hour. You can listen to the track at this link or use the player below.
