There was a Rush reference on last night's season 2 premiere episode of the FX police drama The Bridge. At one point the character Daniel (played by Matthew Lillard) - who has substance abuse problems - goes to see his AA sponsor (played by Brian Baumgartner) who is wearing a Rush Grace Under Pressure t-shirt. The 2 have a conversation about Daniel's continued alcohol problems and Daniel tries to change the subject by commenting on his sponsor's t-shirt:
... Daniel: Rush? Really?
Sponsor: You either drink or you don't. Yeah - I like Rush. So what?
Daniel: Are you Canadian?
Sponsor: No. I'm just a fan.
Daniel: Do you like them when you're sober? I mean that's impressive. I mean ... 2112 is an okay album but ...
Sponsor: Hemispheres dude?!
Daniel: Hemispheres is like ... ok it's fine.
Sponsor: Ok. What is your system?
Daniel: Ready? 2 beers a day.
Sponsor: What about vodka?
Daniel: No. No - vodka leads to pills and pills are not good for Mr. Happy Pants. It's 2 beers a day. Gives me something to look forward to.
Sponsor: Yeah. 2 beers a day is not gonna work 'cuz you're an addict Daniel.
Daniel: I may be buzzed now but tomorrow I'll be sober and you sir, will still be a Rush fan. ...
The reference occurs towards the beginning of the episode's 3rd segment at around the 17-minute mark. You can watch it online at this location. Thanks to Lelsie B for the heads up.
